A little bird told me…
DBD+A has just completed a complete website re-design for Madison Millinger Extraordinary Handmade Rugs, a retail rug store in Portland, Oregon. Click on the image to visit the site and see what we’ve done.
We also created this cute e-mail announcement for the site using part of the Madison Millinger logo…
COMMENTThink globally, window shop locally
Here are some store graphics we did for Earth Class Mail in Seattle. This was the company’s first brick and mortar retail location, and was located next to the local post office to attract customers currently using P.O. Boxes. Video grabs are from the show “Start-up Junkies” viewable now at Hulu.com. Yours truly had a non-speaking part in a few episodes, and our branding, banner and marketing collateral designs make cameos as well.

Find it (on sale) in the Pearl
The Pearl District is having their first annual Home Furnishings Sample Sale. DBD+A created this poster and handout card for the big event.

Find it in the Pearl
Sometimes the best design projects aren’t about creating a whole new look, but taking the best of an existing piece and making it work better. We had just such an opportunity recently when we redesigned the Pearl District Business Association’s (PDBA) map and member guide for their magazine, Explore the Pearl. This was not just a simple redesign though, as the main project goal was to make the directory easier to use for readers, so they can quickly find the information they are looking for.
Our solution was to re-group the listings into larger meta-categories and color-code the individual business listings by section. Those changes, combined with a more-legible-at-small-sizes typeface and some other design tricks we had up our sleeves, resulted in a new 6-page map and guide section that not only looks better, but works better, too. We also created new copy for the guide and titled it: Live it. Love it. Find it in the Pearl. You can pick-up a copy of the magazine in the kiosks around the district.
Sign of things to come…
We’ve recently completed a new logo design for JD Madison‘s new showroom expansion. The new space showcases ten new, higher-end home furnishing lines and needed a sub-branded identity that was similar to JD Madison, but that could stand on its own as well. The new showroom opens to the public on June 15th and will include many more information graphics, displays and signage created by DBD+A. Here’s the logo on the new exterior signage:

And here’s the new logo next to the JD Madison logo:

Everything’s Gone Green
And, that’s a good thing. Everywhere I turn these days people and companies are talking about green-building, green design, and green services — essentially about making green from going green. Hopefully this groundswell of green-thinking can carry out past local, regional and even industry boundaries and become a real national and global charge.

With so many people looking to minimize their own footprint on the planet through their purchases and lifestyle choices, it pays for businesses to let their customers know that they do indeed feature green products or options if they have them. One such company here in Portland is JD Madison, a modern home furnishings store. We developed this green logo for JD Madison to be used on their Web site and on in-store tags to let shoppers know which of their unique and stylish furniture pieces are made using sustainable, recycled, and in many cases, reclaimed materials.
COMMENTNew Clients…
DBD+A is pleased as punch to welcome four new clients to our happy family! We’ve just completed some animated web banner ads for Remote Control Mail, an email blast for Autism Asperger’s Digest Magazine, and in conjunction with LiquidBook (our web technology partner) we’ve begun new site designs for Thinstall and Real Intent.
We’d like to take this moment to thank our many fantastic friends and clients who have been nice enough to give us referrals. Try it yourself today–it’ll give you a nice warm and fuzzy feeling! Guaranteed.
