All of us here at DBD+A are wishing you and yours a fantabulous holiday, and a very happy and fulfilling New Year! Let’s work together to make 2010 the best one ever!
DBD+A Site Wins Smackdown!
OK, we actually won the Showcase Showdown–the inaugural site design contest from Woo Themes, not an actual smackdown. But our site did receive 80% of the total votes! Just think what we could do for your website’s design… Really, think about it. Here’s what some of the responder’s had to say about our site’s design:
“I’m going to have to go with DBDA. It’s simple, clean, and current.”
“DBDA, hands-down winner.”
“DBDA for me. It’s fresh. The copy and images stand out (especially the dog) and really grab your attention. The white background keeps it crisp. You’ve only got a short amount of time to grab and keep people’s interest and DBDA got through to me asap.”
“DBDA Studio is my choice! Awesome!”
“Definitely DBDA. Looks superb. Any chance of sharing how DBDA did the animation?”
“I like it a lot because it’s clean and minimal. Especially for the type of business that they are promoting. Our firm does the same type work and I have definitely learned a few things from a quick visit to their site.”
Welcoming New Partners
OK, we’re actually welcoming some new clients, but we prefer to think of them as partners. You see, for the time that we are strategizing and planning how to best to sell your business, service or product, we are doing it like we are on-staff, not as an outside consultant. We love to learn the ins-and-outs of your business and take a personal interest in solving your marketing challenges. Here are some new partners we’re working with now

Happy Earth Day from our clients!
As we all pause for a moment and ponder the fate of our planet, we thought we’d call your attention to a few of our clients who are doing positive, earth-friendly things with their businesses…
Wilfs Restaurant at historic Union Station uses locally-grown and sourced organic ingredients for their classic menu offerings with a modern twist. They also feature locally-grown and organic jazz music most nights of the week.
Peter Champ is a Portland Real Estate Broker who specializes in green building and renovations, and has taken certification courses in Green Building and Re-building, and Green Structures.
Earth Class Mail will receive your postal mail and enable you to view it online, so you can recycle the bulk of your mail much easier.
JD Madison Home Furnishings showcases many furniture lines that are manufactured from recycled and reclaimed wood, and other renewable sources.
Their sister company, Madison Millinger Extraordinary Rugs features an incredible collection of wool rugs (the original green product!) in their Pearl District showroom. All of their beautiful rugs use only natural dyes and are certified child labor-free by RugMark.
You don’t have to be a green business to work with DBD+A — contact us today and see how we can help your company grow, and maybe get a little greener in the process. Please note that while we have provided links to these companies, we have only designed the Peter Champ, JD Madison and Madison Millinger websites. So far.
Welcoming Wilfs
We’d like to stop and take a moment to welcome Wilfs Restaurant and Bar to our family of clients. Wilfs is somewhat of an anomaly in today’s consolidated corporatized world, in that they are a true family-run business. Located in historic Union Station (the clock tower in old town), Wilf’s serves locally-sourced, organic cuisine in a swanky atmosphere that includes live jazz most of the week. We are currently working on an updated version of the restaurant’s website, and some advertising for local magazines. Of course we’ll let you know as soon as the new website is launched!
Another Logo for the Books!
This logo we designed for Michelle, Inc. (based on her previous branding for Planet Joyride) was also chosen for inclusion in the LogoLounge Master Library. Each volume of the library will focus on a different category of logo designs.
Says the publisher, “Like our existing (and continuing) LogoLounge book series, the new Master Library books will bring you plenty of exemplary logo design work from creatives around the world.” We say, “groovy!” Check out some more logos we’ve created here…
Another Logo Award

We just heard that the logo we created for Eggers and Associates is going to be published in the first book of the Logo Lounge Master Library. The volume won’t be out for a year, but we’re quite pleased right here and now! Eggers & Associates is a medical device research and development company that needed a brand that was clean, strong and “precise” — a nice reflection of the high-tech products developed by Eggers. Our solution was to cut through a solid space with two “scalpels” to create the Eggers “E” mark.
DBDA Loves You!

Happy Valentines from DBD+A! We love our clients and readers s-o-o-o-o-o much! We really do.
Logo Designs Make the Cut
We are patting ourselves on the back after learning that two logos we designed and illustrated were chosen by Logo Lounge for inclusion in their 5th compendium of logo designs. From the e-release:
For Book 5, there were 33,000 logos submitted for consideration and the caliber of work was exceptional. Each judge reviewed thousands of logos from around the world, each mark submitted by talented LogoLounge members. The final collection is not only an excellent point-in-time examination, it is full to the brim with inspiration, higher thinking, and craftsmanship. The new book will be released by Rockport Publishers in early Summer 2009
The chosen logos are the Green mark we did for Studio JDM, and the “Huge Head” mascot for Huge Magazine. Based on previous volumes of the books, we will be in very fine company.
